Installation Tips:
Location & Application
-While we'd love to sell it everywhere, we think Wavy Edge Cedar works best as an accent siding that accentuates the entire structure
-Gables, dormers, and select siding sections look best
-Focus on the front or main vantage point of the home/building
-Pair with brick, stone, board and batten, or stucco siding. We do not recommend using with other lap siding.
Handling & Storage
-Keep your Wavy Edge Cedar protected from the elements and covered under a high quality tarp or under roof. Don't let it weather and sit in the sun for an extended period of time.
-Keep off the ground or concrete at least 6" and let it acclimate for a couple of days before installing.
Nailing & Fasteners
-Stainless Steel or Hot-dipped galvanized nails are recommended. Other types of nails will react with the Cedar and should never be used.
-We recommend a 10d splitless siding nail, preferably a ring shank nail
Nail Penetration & Spacing
-Nails should penetrate the solid wood base at least 1-1/2"
-For best results, face fasten at 16" o.c. or 24" o.c. and nail to studs
-For best results, scarf joint all butt joints and align and fasten at the stud
Lap
-Wavy Edge Cedar has a random and natural width variation. We recommend at least a 1-1/2" lap. You can lap more if needed to achieve your desired look and exposure.
Quality Look
-Because each piece is different with natural variety, we recommend that you try and align butt joints based on the depth of the "wave" of the cedar to match the exposure at the butt joint. This will make it look like one solid piece without odd irregular butt joints
-Due to the natural variety of each piece, it's a good idea to lay out the boards ahead of installation to make sure the natural waviness has a variety that meets your desired look. Swapping pieces up or down can help you achieve your preferred randomness and look. Save pieces with the least amount of wave for short cuts.
-Use a high quality paint or stain to finish your Wavy Edge Siding. Decide whether you want a paint, solid stain, or semi-transparent stain and use these helpful guidelines for choosing a paint or stain: Finishing Tips
Why choose Western Red Cedar?
Fiber Source:
Why Cedar?
BEAUTY – Aesthetically, there really is no substitute for the natural beauty of Real Cedar. Imbued with decidedly crisp, yet superbly rich, tonal properties, Real Cedar can create sublime outdoor sanctuaries, embolden traditional home decor, provoke cutting-edge architecture and inspire innovative interiors. Imagine – all that dynamism packed into one beautiful building material! No wonder Real Cedar is a designer’s dream come true.
VERSATILITY – Western red cedar is pitch and resin-free. Which means it’s ideal for accepting and holding a wide range of beautiful finishes including elegant dark stains, shabby chic bleaches, traditional solid colours and naturally beautiful semi-transparents. Real Cedar also offers a wide range of lumber dimensions, surface textures and grades. Ergo, no matter what your desired effect is, Real Cedar’s got the wood for you.
SUSTAINABILITY – Independent studies prove that when it comes to environmental performance, natural wood is superior to synthetic products in every way. While other building materials generate greenhouse gasses, western red cedar actually removes greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere. And unlike brick, cement and composites, Real Cedar is renewable and biodegradable. All cedar forests are strictly managed to ensure that cedar remains one of the most sustainable building products available. In fact, well less than 1% of available Cedar is logged in a given year, and we have more cedar trees today than in history.
Using Cedar for a basic 30'x16' deck saves over two metric tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to driving a car for an entire year.
When you choose cedar, you're choosing to be green.
Certifications
